As volume increases and/or product design changes your beginning processes need to be re-evaluated.

When new technology is added usually floorspace requirements result in less than optimal material flow with excess backtracking.

A lack of knowledge of new technology can result in purchasing the wrong machine especially if the process is not evaluated considering the entire work flow process.

The correct method is to look at the factory as one machine with each process having relationships to each other.

Initially you may not have had enough volume in a specific process to justify higher technology but that may not be the case today.

Evaluate each process based on demand and invest in higher technology starting closest to the outside customer.
